Mitho Lolo Recipe | The Sweetness of Sindhi Royalty

Sindhi cuisine is a beautiful blend of flavors, and Mitho Lolo is one of its most cherished sweet delights. Soft, rich, and infused with the warmth of ghee and cardamom, this traditional flatbread is often prepared during special occasions, festivals, or simply when you crave something comforting and homemade.

What is Mitho Lolo?
Mitho Lolo is a traditional Sindhi sweet flatbread made with whole wheat flour, jaggery (gur), and ghee. Unlike regular rotis, it has a soft, slightly crumbly texture and a naturally sweet flavor that melts in your mouth. It’s a nostalgic dish that brings back memories of home cooked goodness.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup jaggery (grated)
  • ½ cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 to 3 tbsp milk (optional, for softness)
  • Water (as needed)

Preparation Method:
Step 1: Prepare the Jaggery Mixture
In a bowl, dissolve grated jaggery in a little warm water or milk. Strain if needed to remove impurities.

Step 2: Make the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and cardamom powder. Add melted ghee and mix well. Gradually pour in the jaggery mixture and knead into a soft dough.

Step 3: Rest the Dough
Cover and let the dough rest for about 10 to 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend and the dough to soften.

Step 4: Shape the Lolo
Divide the dough into portions and gently flatten them into thick discs using your hands or a rolling pin.

Step 5: Cook the Lolo
Heat a tawa on medium flame. Cook each lolo with ghee until both sides turn golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges.

Serving Suggestions:
Mitho Lolo is best enjoyed:
